APPROACH

Buddhist Psychology

I believe that you, not theory, are the organizing principle of your health and healing. You will see me listen for your inner resourcefulness and resilience and reflect back at you the ways you are not wrong. I will also invite you to look at your relationship with suffering. This is not unlike climbing a hill to see the larger landscape: you are not your suffering and new pathways can be found.

Anti-oppression

Supporting LGBTQIPA2S+ clients and practicing anti-racist allyship are at the center of my personal efforts to counter societal oppression. I see and am not ok with the enormity of the continuous intrusions into physical, mental, social, and spiritual health that LGBTQIPA2S+ and BIPOC people experience.

In the therapeutic alliance, I practice anti-oppression by involving my clients in assessing how helpful therapeutic modalities are, by examining and being accountable for my impact, and by consulting within communities of practice.

Drawing from contemporary Feminism, I believe that there are freedom and connection to be found in examining the influence of culture and context. I will encourage you to notice what narratives manifest in your life and echo in your relationships. What has become normalized and what has become marginalized? On what basis and with what consequences? What if these narratives were subverted? Additionally, I will invite you to notice when a narrative is polarized and how agency and constraints coexist and intertwine in the same identity.

Somatic-relational

Supporting you in developing a sense of safety with yourself and your emotions, as well as enhancing your ability to co-construct safety in relationships, is a priority. I’ll guide you in cultivating a mindset of benevolent curiosity toward what you have yet to discover or understand, while also helping you recognize and honor your somatic cues. In my understanding, mind and body are inseparable aspects of being, knowing, and growth.

ADDITIONAL EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Leadership development

One of my passions is leadership development. I hold a Ph.D. in leadership development from Cranfield University (UK) and over the past 13 years I’ve gained experience as a leadership coach and facilitator.

As a therapist, I leverage this experience to assist clients in demystifying the process of learning and development and translating their insights into practical and value-aligned actions.

In addition, therapy clients who want to develop their leadership practice may explore with me their areas of growth in leadership flexibility, people development, conflict management, resiliency, and emotional intelligence.

Mindfulness

Integrating mindfulness into therapy tends to support clients’ goals of reducing stress, including traumatic stress, enhancing clarity and focus, and improving communication.

I am a practitioner of Buddhist meditation. I am trained in trauma-informed yoga teaching and have been teaching somatic mindfulness practices since 2011. If relevant to your goals, I might explore with you your interest in specific yoga and meditation techniques.

I offer online therapy to individuals and couples in Seattle and WA. Find out more about AREAS OF FOCUS and FEES or contact me to request a FREE INITIAL CONSULTATION
